The Timeline of the Golf GTI
The first generation Golf GTI was introduced in the mid/late 1970s , by the early 1980s over 400 000 MK1 GTIs were sold. In Mid 1980s the second generation GTI was introduced which was a bit more heavier but faster than its predecessor, production continued until the early 1990s. Around the early years of the 1990s VW introduced the MK3/Third generation Golf GTI which unfortunately was critised by motoring enthusiasts for lacking the GTI feel ,aura and agility they had become accustomed to. In the late 1990s the fourth generation Golf GTI was introduced into the market but its iconic and famous red stripe and GTI badge on the front grille was removed, this didn't sit well with GTI and devoted motoring enthusiasts. But in the mid 2000s MK5 GTI marked the revival and resurrection of the beloved German hatchback, the iconic red stripe on the grille was reintroduced and the MK5 GTI featured new technology and had mind blowing power like never before. In the late 2000s/ early 2010s the German motoring company introduced the Golf the MK6 GTI which was designed for driving enthusiasts because according to reviews it is a sensational and light hatch to drive. Also the sixth generation of the Golf became the first ever GTI to have convertible option. Additionally the Golf GTI edition 35 was designed to celebrate 35 years of GTI. In 2013 the MK7 GTI was introduced and it was deemed to be lighter than its predecessor , for driving enthusiasts this was good news because it meant it will offer much better, crisp handling. A lot of driving enthusiasts praise the MK7 GTI for its dynamic nature and flexibility. In the early 2020s the MK8 GTI was added in the VW family in which it features state of the art technology ,mind blowing LED lighting technology and breath taking interior. But some car and motoring enthusiasts have labeled the MK8 GTI as being too computeristic which ultimately diminishes the driving pleasure.
This revolutionary car has redefined the hatchback industry ,some even say it has ultimately assumed the whole industry as its own. Throughout the years it has proven to be the gold standard in the world of sporty hatchbacks.
